Due to the frequent absence of Shiva and Parvati on Kailash, the residents weren’t able to get the knowledge of Shiva element properly. In their absence, Kailash felt silent and alone.
To spread happiness and presence of Shiva even in their absence, Kartikeya, who is also known as Skanda, created a Shiva Linga.
The primary reason behind the creation of this Linga was to store the energies of Shiva and Parvati so that their presence will be felt forever.
Foundation of Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga
Kartikeya requested Shiva and Shakti to provide them their tactile memory and presence. So that whenever they won’t be in Kailash, their presence would be felt forever.
To fulfill the wish of Kartikeya, Shiva converted his Linga to a Jyotirlinga in which the tactile energies of both Shiva and Parvati are present.
It is the only Jyotirlinga in which energies of both Shiva and Parvati are present. Those who prays at this Jyotirlinga, gets blessed with the felicity of Shiva and Parvati.
Since it was installed by Kartikeya who is also known as Skanda, Shiva gave it the name, Skandeshwar Mahadev.
It is also known as Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga. Mallika means Parvati and Arjuna means Shiva.
