Bheemashankar Jyotirlinga

Bheemasur was the son of Kumbhakaran. When Ravana ordered Kumbhakaran to gather army for the war against Rama, he went to the mountains of Seha Yadri. The chief there had a big army but he wanted Kumbhakaran to marry his daughter.

Kumbhakaran needed the army so he agreed and silently married with the daughter of chief. Bheemasur was the son of the daughter of chief of Seha Yadri.

Revenge of Bheemasur

Bheemasur wanted to take revenge from Shri Rama because He killed his father, Kumbhakaran. Hanuman ji advised not to mess with Rama and enlightened him about greatness of Kumbhakaran who only fought to fulfill the order of his brother and king of Lanka. Hanuman ji told him to do an austerity of Brahma and please him.

Bheemasur prayed and pleased Brahma. He got the boon of not getting killed by Narayana or any of his incarnations.

Bheemasur captured king Kamrupeshwar who was the great devotee of Shiva. Narayana came to protect but Bheemasur attacked Him. Because of the boon, Narayana only defended the attacks of Bheema.

Then Shiva came and slayed Bheemasur with his trident. Bheemasur realized his mistake and apologized with Shiva and Narayana both. Kamrupeshwar requested Mahadev to bless the place with his presence. Shiva installed a Shiva Linga which is known as Bheemashankar Jyotirlinga.

Vishveshwar Jyotirlinga

Once Narayana asked Shiva to create a place for His austerity. Mahadev built a beautiful city. Narayana went into penance for centuries and Mahadev kept on decorating it with rivers, trees, flowers, hills etc.

When Narayana woke up, He found a beautiful panchakoti city. With peace and joy, He shook His head and one of his ear dropped there.

Shiva hold the earring on his trident and kept it separated from all 14 Loka. He placed the earring on Earth which got expanded to panchakoti city of Kashi. The place where Mahadev placed the earring is known as Manikarnika.

Shiva blessed the city with his Jyotirlinga whose energies are out of this world. Hence it is known as Vishveshwar Jyotirlinga. This is the only Jyotirlinga which Shiva created with self pleasure.

Kashi is the favorite city of Mahadev. He keeps it free from disasters and troubles. Even in holocaust, Shiva keep this city safe on His trident and put it back in the new world.
